Alexandre Gustave Eiffel built the Eiffel Tower. He was born in Dijon,France on December 15 of 1832. He became interested in designing buildings of French railways and bridges. He worked on structures like a bridge across the Garonne River Later on in 1885 he started a project called the Statue Of Liberty. Then he made the Eiffel Tower with wrought iron lattices in 1889. The Eiffel Tower was built for the world Exhibition in 1889,because of the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The tower weighs 7,000 tons. The base is 2.5 acres. The Eiffel tower is about 1052 feet high including the intenna on top. There are also 2,500,000 rivets and 18,038 steel pieces. The structure took 2 years,2 months and 5 days to complete it. It shrinks 6 inches in the winter. In the early 1900's it was used for communications and today it is used as a tourist attraction with thousands of visitors every year. The Eiffel tower was the tallest structure in the world until the Chrysler building was built in New York.
